Youth Services’ programs have been helping area youth and families cope with tough issues since the agency’s establishment in 1972. Their staff of professionals assists area youth and families with problems ranging from the challenges associated with growing up to substance abuse or trouble with the law. The agency’s goals are to be responsive to the needs of the residents of Windham County and nearby New Hampshire and to be accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay for services. On average, we help 2,200 young people and adults each year. The agency’s mission is to provide programs and services that promote the healthy development of local youth and families and help them gain the skills necessary to lead constructive lives within the community.
“Without the Youth ImPact project Youth Services would be way behind in actualizing the time and talent of its present pool of new and invigorated employees in both the Restorative Justice and the Transitional Living/Street Outreach programs. With the human and economic resources this grant has made available, Youth Services has been able to move forward on four very important fronts. First, the Drop In Night collaborative with the Boys and Girls Club, second, the Making Change Support Group for Youth who are on a continuum of using/abusing alcohol and other drugs which will kick off in January, third, collaborations and information exchanges with faith based groups and fourth, making it possible to revamp our clinical work tying in our feeder programs using evidenced based, best fit practices. The focus that Youth ImPact has helped us get to via an organizational assessment has been priceless. Thanks.” ~ Allyson Villars, Executive Director

The Boys & Girls Club provides a safe place for youth to learn and grow, develop ongoing relationships with caring adult professionals, engage in life-enhancing programs, character development experiences, and create hope and opportunity. For $25 per year, a member can participate in an art room, music room, performance stage, indoor skate park, bike repair shop, climbing wall, basketball hoop, snack bar, pool, pin-pong, weight room, and tech lab with computers and internet access.
Youth ImPact has provided funding for the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboroto to create a new web page. "The Boys & Girls Club has not had a clear, working web page in some time and we are very excited to be able to work with an amazing web designer and have a exciting and inviting web page which will facilitate membership access and give parents a chance to view information about the Club and the Staff before they entrust their children with us. Manjula was amazing, she worked very closely with us during the process to be sure that we were completely satisfied with the final web page. I encourage everyone to view us on the web at www.bgcbrattleboro.com."

The Guilford Community Church, United Church of Christ, acknowledges that those who have become members and those who actively participate in the church community share a variety of beliefs, yet remain joined in Christian love and respect. The Guilford Community Church is open to all. It affirms the spirit of God found in those who seek fellowship, comfort, and guidance here whatever their age, race, gender, ethnicity, education, disability, sexual orientation, financial situation, national origin, or any other circumstance that has historically been a barrier to a full life, participation, membership, mission, work, and ministry in the United Church of Christ. We embrace those brothers and sisters as equal partners in the Body of Christ with full access to every opportunity to serve God.
Guilford Community Church has been an active partner in this collaboration, bringing to it a long long history of conducting overseas trips for youth, providing individual counseling and referrals, participating in volunteer coordination with local agencies, and sponsoring conversations on racism and intercultural dialogues to support community awareness and advocacy. Youth ImPact is supporting the expansion of the restorative justice volunteer effort at Guilford Church to include youth adaptations and creating circles of support and accountability for youth at the high school. Youth Impact funds have increased the church's capacity to provide these with support to upgrade their computer systems, web design and other infrastructure services.

A democracy requires an informed, empowered, and vocal citizenry," this is one of VIM's core beliefs. Vermont Independent Media (VIM) sees reclaiming local control of media as a key component to organizing for social justice and participatory democracy. VIM works to support this principle through its two projects, a monthly community paper, The Commons, and the Media Mentoring Project.
Established in January 2006, The Commons has since grown to a circulation of 6,000 under the auspices of a diverse, fully engaged volunteer Board. Volunteer writers, researchers, photographers, and artists enabled The Commons to launch on a shoestring budget. While we have grown to hire a part-time editor and compensate writers, a cadre of volunteers continues to hand-deliver each monthly issue to every town in Windham County, reaching a wide spectrum of the population.
Since December 2005, the Media Mentoring Project has offered free writing workshops to more than 200 participants at local libraries. These workshops enable local residents from all walks of life to build their writing, editing, and journalism skills and get their work published, both in The Commons and in other media outlets.
