RIVER ARTS ANNOUNCES VOICES TEEN RADIO WORLD PREMIER: - Please tune in to WOOL FM 100.1 on your radio dial or listen through the Internet at www.wool.fm to hear to the world premier of VOICES Teen Radio.
VOICES is a teen radio project of The Great River Arts Institute in Bellows Falls, Vermont, that invites teens aged 15 - 18 to develop their own personal narratives and give voice to their experiences which first aired at 8:00 pm on Saturday, May 9th. The broadcast is a lively piece of student crafted radio theater on subjects that resonate with anyone who has ever attended high school, such as Cliques. Four prerecorded VOICES Teen Radio segments are currently in production and will be aired this spring and summer also on WOOL FM. These productions are the culmination of the writings and voices of more than 40 Vermont teens collected over an eight-month period in communities from Brattleboro to Saint Johnsbury. Subjects explored include Change, Creativity, Hopes and Self. Great River Arts worked with writer, poet and performance artist, Kathe Izzo to gather material for VOICES. Ms. Izzo visited area schools multiple times throughout the year to meet with students and prospective writers "where they live" as well as hosting independent one-on-one appointments with student writers that had been recommended by their teachers, counselors and social workers. In addition to school outreach visits, Kathe Izzo and Great River Arts’ Education Director, Kristen Fehrenbach implemented monthly intensive blogging/recording/writing workshops for a dedicated core of student writers. Check out the blog created in conjunction with the teen radio program at www.voicesteenradio.com. VOICES Teen Radio is produced in collaboration with Black Sheep Radio WOOL FM 100.1 and made possible with generous funding by the A.D. Henderson Foundation. The Great River Arts Institute is a nonprofit arts education organization offering classes in the visual and literary arts for both children and adults.
