Welcome to the Windham County Youth Mapping Project
Last year, we asked young people what they like and don't like about living in Windham County, and what they would change if they could. They asked for more public spaces to get together;
more opportunities for physical recreation; less drug use, violence and crime;
more jobs for young people; improved police/youth relations; cleaner downtown areas; and more low-cost activities.
We knew that the county probably already offered a lot of these resources, though. But where were they, exactly? To find out, a team of youth went to work interviewing all kinds of people throughout the county on the jobs, community service opportunities, and other resources already available to young people. The website is about what they found.
We hope that you find what you are looking for here, somewhere to eat on your way through town, somewhere to share your talents and passions with others, learn from others' talents or make some money. We are improving this site as we go, and want your input about what we are doing well and what you were hoping to find but didn't. Tell us! We're eager to expand and improve what's here.
We started with three basic categories of opportunities. Click on the one you're interested in, and you'll have the option to look at a map of county with icons, or, if you prefer, a written list. No matter which format you view it in, each location has accompanying text that describes everything about what is being offered.
If you have any suggestions or comment, or want to tell us about a place we should add, please send us an email
